Places of Spirit magazine brings an interesting story on Zanat with a detailed description of the hand-carving technique practiced by Zanat, describing the exceptional nimbleness with which Zanat’s craftsman carve wood, faster than a machine could do, if there was a machine sophisticated enough to do a wide variety of carvings that these craftsman do. Carving wood is, indeed, like writing poetry to Zanat’s craftsman: it requires skill and inspiration, endless concentration, certain sensibility and emotion.
